This is the issue that brought me to this forum to begin with...
I've been experiencing a really odd version of insomnia, and I'm not sure what's going on or how to best deal with it. Honestly, it sounds like a hypomanic episode to me, which is strange as I am not bipolar. Although I suppose it is possible to experience a single hypomanic episode and not be bipolar. At any rate, I've been having this issue where I am fully functional and don't need sleep for my function. I'm still sleepy as in my eyes feel tired, but if i close them without sleep, I feel fine. I am fully energized and at work yesterday, my boss told me I looked better and more energized and worked better than I have in a month. He didn't know, but I'd only slept for an hour the night before work and 2 hours the night before that. I spent the whole second half of the day attempting to sleep because I felt like I should and even though I was fully functional without sleep, my body must need it... I could only end up sleeping for one sleep cycle at a time, and it would take an hour to get to sleep... because I'm just simply not tired. I'm explaining it as sleepy but not tired.... but I don't know... Because I do feel the sleepyness in my eyes. I have no vision problems with the sleepyness in my eyes as I often do... but I feel sleepy in my eyes. But I'm not tired at all. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Any tips? Do I force myself to sleep or stay active? I really hate sleeping aids, I've never had positive experiences with them... |

Hi zobothehobo, I'm not doctor, but I don't think it's very good for your body to go on 1 or 2 hours of sleep per night for too long. It may be time to see a doctor about this, who could prescribe a sleep aid or refer you to a psychiatrist if he or she feels that's warranted.
Seems to me, if you're sleeping so little yet don't feel tired at all, could be hypomania. Is your mood also elevated or do you feel more angry than usual? How many hours is it normal for you to be sleeping? At any rate, as I said, I'd go see a doctor about this condition. Your body needs to rest to function properly and repair cells, etc. Best of luck. |

i just forced myself into 4ish hours... I can force myself to sleep... it just takes a really long time. But yeah, I am going to see a doctor soon.
I've been really quick to temper and my mood has been really quick to swing. So like if I get disappointed, I get REALLY disappointed, and if I get happy I get REALLY happy. I mean it's only been for like 4 days... but I am a little weirded out |

I'm glad you're seeing a doctor. Your body needs time to recoup from you day. Eventually, not sleeping will catch up with you. You may want to ask your GP for a sleep study.

You may be dreaming you cant sleep. Thus you may be getting enough sleep.

while that does make me question everything in my life in a way that feels weirdly similar to a form of gaslighting... i highly doubt that's the case because of how i feel not asleep physically in the since that there are itches and tickles i feel and coughs and tossing and turning and i don't and haven't really ever dream(ed) that vividly.
