Hi guys,
Have you ever experienced sleep paralysis? It happens to me every once in a while, but I can't get used to it. Every time it happens I'm terrified because it feels like I can't breathe and even worse- sometimes it happens when I'm experiencing bad dreams. Any suggestions how to avoid it? is it even possible? Or any advice how to be less scared? Thanks a million |

You may feel you need to get some things off you chest. You may be terrified to show them. Go with your fear, and ask the fear what are you afraid of?

I try and focus on needing to go to the bathroom and that usually a bodily function brings me back fully awake... you might try that next time and focus on your bladder being full and the immediate need to get up. It has been happening to me since I was a little kid and although it can be upsetting to not be able to wake up but be aware of your surroundings, but stay calm and make *every* effort to move and bring awareness to your bodies need to go to the bathroom. That has worked countless times for me over just continuously trying to get up out of bed because I can't seem to get up to the place in my dream / nightmare I want to go to. Hope this helps, ~ dmhobbit ~ |

You'll generally experience sleep paralysis if your sleep is getting disrupted at the beginning/during the end of that particular sleep cycle. You can read about the different sleep stages here on the Wikipedia page.
What time of the night/morning do you generally experience it? Depending on when you're having it, you may be able to avoid it simply by shifting your bedtime or wake-up schedule. |
