I find it hard for me to sleep sometimes. I usually go to bed at 9:30... (yah... I know... Quite early) but most of the time I find myself just in bed and unable to fall asleep. By the time it's 12 midnight, I'm still awake just rolling around in bed.
Also... I really am very resless when I am sleeping. I can feel myself rolling around while sleeping and it sometimes wakes me up. I usually find my blanket on the floor or crumpled up. So is there anyway to help me fall asleep when I want to fall asleep, and is there anything that can be done about this reslesness? |

I would check with my doctor to see if he had any suggestions.

There are sleep disorder clinics where they assess peoples' sleep difficulties. You might discuss this with your doctor. Otherwise the types of things that are usually suggested are to avoid caffeine, don't watch TV, exercise, avoid alcohol, don't read in bed... you've probably heard it all before. There are also various types of supposed sleep-inducing recordings that are available. There's lots of this sort of thing available for free on YouTube. You could try some of it out & see if it helps.
One thing I read recently is that when you are over-tired, it's actually harder to get to sleep. So, if you're already sleep-deprived due to your restlessness, this may be making matters worse. It also may be that your difficulty with sleep is due to tension. So, if that is the case, dealing with your anxiety may help to alleviate your sleep problems. Good luck with this! |

1. Try taking GABA (500mg). It is a neurotransmitter that promotes relaxation. Its not a sleeping pill and doesn't make you drowsy during the day. I take one by the company Douglas Laboratories (their quality of product is good) so you can look online or at health stores to see if they have it and maybe try it for a few days. 2. Also try maybe taking a hot shower or an epsom salts bath before bed that will help you relax. 3. Try establishing a sleep routine before bed i.e. don't eat or drink a couple of hours before sleep, try not to watch tv or use the computer , listen to some relaxing music. 4. Finally, if you find that you can't sleep because you can't get physically comfortable, consider getting a water pillow (I think you can get them from chiropractor's or possibly online.) Maybe try the bath and proper sleep routine first and then try the GABA if those don't work out. You can also try to look for a psychologist or therapist who may help you with your fear of sleeping. Take care, - A |

I know what you're going through OP. I have also been struggling with sleep for a few months now and I have never had trouble sleeping in my life before now. I used sleeping tablets for a while (Zolpidem zopiclone) but they would only help me fall asleep and not help me stay asleep. I agree with the previous post that you must try avoid stimulants before sleeping. My mom had insomnia and has always said you must try push yourself to stay awake until 11pm - apparently that's the "golden hour" :-p
Otherwise speak to your doctor and see what you can come up with. Good luck
