i have been dealing with depression going on almost a year now and it has not been going well and the dreams I get every night are weird and this one had me concerned when I woke up this morning

in my dream I was looking the mirror and on the left side of neck there was a huge hole I could see the back of my throat I was terrified its like something was eating away at my neck and then another part of the dream I had a very hoarse voice I could barley speak. I know when I woke up my mouth was very dry.

any help would be great my mind has been in complete turmoil since the year started and I am lost at this point.

Hey, loner4life, and welcome to Psych Central! Are you taking an antidepressant? Many such drugs can cause dry mouth. Your dream might have been reflecting the changes in your oral situation.

Of course, if we want to try to deal with symbolism, maybe you are feeling out of control, like you are wanting to talk and can't very well. Or your words are just coming out of a hole without your control.

Have you seen or heard about anyone with oral cancer recently, by any chance?

Something to think about anyway....

dear loner4life,
Welcome to PC, good people here, I hope you find what you are seeking for.
As you said the last year has been in complete turmoil could equate to too much talking without any improvement therefore a hoarse throat in the dream.
Waking up with a hoarse throat could be you slept with your mouth open.
Question, are you a smoker or living with a smoker?
If so, maybe time to quit or ask smoker to go outside.
Make an appointment for the doctor and see what they say.
I am in the process of quitting, I am on the patch and use the thing that looks like a small cigar. It has been beneficial, not smoke free but getting there.
ENT, ear, nose, throat doctor would also be a good idea.
I believe dreams often occur for a reason, again I hope you find this site useful.

You feel you need to say some thing about some thing that is eating at you. But you can't say it. What is is it? Talk to your therapist about this feeling.
