When I was growing up, my father would pull us out of bed on random nights and go a psychopathic rage. I am pretty sure this is the reason I have so much trouble as an adult and even as a youth sleeping at other places that is not my own. I end up staying up all night very hyper-vigilante, never knowing why. I'd always felt like something was wrong with me and then be so stressed out the next day.
I'm glad I know more about PTSD because I can tell people that instead of just saying that I have trouble sleeping sometimes. I think people will be more understanding when I mention it is PTSD instead of just a little trouble sleeping. I also had many many nightmares growing up and still have some to this day. I want to be like most people who can fall asleep at sleep-overs or in hotel rooms with a friend, etc. Can anyone else relate? |

Hello Rara200284. I had a father who did something similar. However, I've not been diagnosed with PTSD, so this may be different than. I feel always uncomfortable sleeping in strange places. I never sleep any place except my bed if I can. Otherwise, if I need to sleep somewhere else, I stay awake for hours before I can get myself to sleep. Even than, I wake up early. I too suffer from many nightmares. In a way, I'm kind of glad I stay awake, because I still worry about my strange surroundings. However, for you, I can see how your PTSD might cause this.
