Hello, InRealLife45. We are all different. What someone else might safely take could be deleterious for you.

I wish you well.

I take 2mg 3x daily for panic disorder but I take Seroquel for sleep and I do sleep about 8 hours on that. I do not take Xanax for sleep. But 4mg at one time would probably put me to sleep. Some days I do fine on just 4mg a day.

I took 1 or 1,5 or 2 mg for sleep but the more I take the less it helps and now I have almost no reaction to Xanax.
I started with 0,25 mg and end up with 3 mg

So doctor prescripted me Seroquel for sleep but I didn't try it yet.

By itself xanax is fairly safe even in larger than normal doses however if you combine alcohol with xanax you can really hurt yourself. (This as stated by my pdoc.)

I combined Xanax with alcohol and intoxicated for three times, now I don't do it anymore and don't suggest to do it. I almost got in hospital, I fell down in a bar and woke up in unknown apartment.

Yes, Seroquel makes me too sleepy next day, I need MUCH coffee but it helps just a little.

You should give Seroquel/Quetipine a try. I'm only taking 100mg of it at night and after careful research and talking with my pdoc we agree that it is a low enough dose not to trigger the antipsychotic effects of the drug just the sleepy pattern and I get about 7 hours but I DO wake up groggy and want a few hours more... takes me about 3 cups of coffee and some VAPING nicotine to get out of the fog but I do. Also noticed my nightmares are almost nightly now that I'm on it but I just shake it off and go on with my day.

GOoD lUcK! Don't mix benzos or Seroquel with alcohol unless you want the mother of all hangovers. Just trust the Seroquel.
