I suffer from insomnia and one night a month ago I did not get any sleep whatsoever. Ever since, I've been asking myself "what if I don't get any sleep this night?" Whenever the sun goes down I get worrisome, knowing that I have to try to get some sleep, not knowing if I can at all that night. This has been going on for a while now. Any help?

Have you tried speaking to a doctor about this? There are certain prescription medications that help with sleep. You can also try Melatonin it is available over the counter at most pharmacies.

try some mindfulness techniques of just recogniziing the thought and then just letting it go...see it as a cloud just floating through your head..in the front door of your mind and out the back...you can read a lot about mindfulness techniques on the internet. the in the front door and out the back visualization works best for me. i actually see the thought marching through my brain and then kicking it out the back door. it gives me just enough time to dwell on it. good luck.

I take trazadone for the sleep issues.

I also have trazodone for sleep. Also, tizanidine which makes me drowsy. I don't like taking them because my body seems heavier the next day. But they do work. Can also cause some amnesia.

Does Insomnia have to do with depression because I think I'm depressed.

You can definitely have sleep problems with depression. Some people have insomnia and others can sleep too much, or a combination of each.

Common anxiety can cause this too. Worrying feeds into anxiety and makes thing worse. Just break the cycle as suggested above.

Have had insomnia for 8 years, related to depression and anxiety. Take Ambien, Trazadone and OTC supplements, still a nightly struggle, not falling asleep, getting back to sleep after waking up in the middle of the night! Started therapy a couple of months ago, addressing my issues has made my anxiety and insomnia worse. I realize it's part of the growth process.

Did you try Trazadone? If that didn't work, and they won't give you Ambien or something, there's nothing you could legally get that's much stronger. You could try taking magnesium (google that and sleep).

And try eating a heavy meal right before bedtime.
Thanks for this!

I have severe insomnia. The only thing that has worked for me is yoga before I go to bed. There are specific practices for sleep.

I was thinking of anti-anxiety medication, since this is more of a anxiety issue.

Given the nightmare that withdrawing from it is, you're better off not starting with that. Not to say they wouldn't help, but some moron would eventually kick you off them.

Ontheborderline suggests yoga, which sounds like it could help. Other than what I already suggested, I don't know, sorry.

Trazodone might have stopped working. You might need a higher dose or a change in your sleep medicine. I hope this is not the case for you, but it can happen - it happened to me and happened to many other people.

Also, if you have not used antihistamines, they would induce sleep for a few nights - that may be enough to stop you from worrying about sleep and you may then be able to go back to having Trazodone only. Just an OTC antihistamine, such as Benadryl, MIGHT do the trick. Sleep is tricky, so not every trick, no pun intended, works for everybody, but at least Benadryl is safe to try.

My doctor put me on gabapentin for the anxiety. Who knows if it may help me out for the sleep anxiety too.

I know if I don't take the last dose of gabapentin, I sometimes have a harder time getting to sleep. I hope it helps you.

This worrying over not getting any sleep is called "psychpsychological insomnia" if anyone is interested.

Psychophysiological Insomnia
Thanks for this!
