I've been having sleep issues for almost 10 years now. I went in for a sleep study and they told me I have sleep apnea. I tried sleeping with a CPAP machine but I could never get used to the CPAP machine. The issue that I'm having is that I sleep for 12 hours. It's quite difficult for me to wake up. I don't know what to do. I'm a part-time student because of the sleep issue but I don't know what I'm going to do once I complete my studies and start working. I've been diagnosed with schizo-affective disorder. I'm on Vaproic Acid 1250mg, Wellbutrin 300mg, Abilify 10mg. I've been telling my doctor about this for a while now. He added 200mg of modafanil. It still didn't work in getting me to wake up in 8 hours. What should I do?

im unsure if this would be an option with the dx, but have they tried any stimulants? like vyvanse? i take it specifically to wake me up in the morning and keep me awake (sometimes i still end up being unable to keep my eyes open).

have they done any tests to check for your sleep cycles? (something that could cause constant sleepyness is not going into the rem cycle sleep stage.)

I can relate, especially tonight. I'm manic often, I don't like to take my sleep meds because then I can't wake up. I slept 9 1/2 hours today and can barely function. I don't know how I'm gonna make it through this shift. I just caught myself walking down the hall with my eyes closed. Sleeping also makes me mean when I wake up, when manic, I'm really happy. People like me better when I'm manic & so do I.

Hi Lexi232,
I am on a stimulant called modafinil. It's supposed to be some kind of alertness drug. I've tried it for a few days. It works the first few days and after that leaves me feeling quite sleep deprived and sleepy even with it. So I suppose this sleep issue is only with me then. *sigh*
