I have noticed that a weird, usually vivid dream is a precursor to my trigger of a mild mania...(usually just insomnia) if I restrict coffee and take sleep aid it goes away in about a week or so...

Hi KinkyGuy
I can understand this connection. An unsettling dream can distrupt sleep. It can cause some degree of insomnia. Any dysfunction in our sleep pattern can certainly begin to activate a mood episode. Sleep is one of my key indicators for myself personally that I am entering into a mood state based on the amount / frequency of sleep. Restricting coffee makes sense. Coffee is a stimulant which would further contribute towards sleep disruption. You have labeled this as a precursor of "mild mania". This makes sense if it goes away within about a week .... We can't necessarily control our dreams but I am wondering maybe you can download a relaxation app so if you are interuppted during your sleep by an unsettling dream if you could try some techniques to help you fall asleep again so that your sleep cycle isn't completely disrupted? And if it does occur reduce coffee stimulants as you already are, this is a good strategy. |
