i had a dream that a close friend of mine had trouble sleeping, and in the dream i saw him tossing and turning. chances are he was awake perhaps while i was dreaming this. he also does have difficulty sleeping. it was a really weird experience??

Most certainly! I have wild dreams myself. Just last night even. In fact it is so abstract I can hardly describe it. Keep in mind our dreams are our mind's way of working through unconscious preoccupations, as well as simply process the onslaught of information we receive each day. Perhaps, look inward a little. Evaluate your inventory and concerns a little. Aside from that, I wouldn't read too much into it. The human mind is a fascinating thing!
