was just wondering if when people sleep they prefered the light on or off?

which is better for you

though i can't sleep most nights (and that's hard in itself), i prefer the light on because it helps me sometimes with the helusinations. (not as much as i'd like it to), but it does

what about you all

I sleep during the day because I have to have light. When i wake up I have to be able to see I'm safe and no one is there. The catch is I prefer it dark, so I put a shirt or pillowcase over my eyes

It is better for us biologically to sleep with the light off. We were designed that way - active during the daylight hours and sleep in the dark hours. Messing with that can cause mental illness.

I sleep with the room light off, but there MUST be a sliver of light coming from another room. Sometimes i wake at night, and survey the room- so there has to be adequate light to make out everything in the room, but not so much to the point where it prevents sleep.

If it's too dark, I'm too afraid to sleep.

If it's too bright, it's too uncomfortable to sleep.

Thankfully, we were able to find a balance

P.S. Thank you for the thread.

I need light. I use a lot of night lights around the house and keep a lamp on in the other room.

Lights off for me.. Although sometimes I fall asleep and forget to turn them off. 90% of the time, off.

I sleep with a salt lamp on. It gives off a nice red/orangy light. I can't sleep without a light on in my room so I can see the walls at night. It helps with the so called hallucinations that seem to kick off at night.

I sleep with the lights off but when I was young I slept with them on due to me being anxious. But even now I wouldn't mind having a nightlight so I can see.

When I first had an explosion of PTSD symptoms, I needed to sleep with the light on, as I was scared of the dark. And if anyone has ever said an adult can't be scared of the dark, well I don't have to explain it to the folks here. But I largely recovered from that so now I like it totally dark in order to keep me in deeper sleep.
