It's only really happened twice last week, but it's new all the same, and it's making me a little anxious.

Basically I went on a Neuroscience course from last Monday - Friday. I was sharing a room with someone, and in two separate nights, this happened:

On the first night, I was dreaming about something, but I can't remember what. I woke up in the middle of the night, and found myself sat up in bed. I was really confused for a moment, and then I saw the other girl who was sharing with me was asleep in the opposite bed and realised I'd most likely been sitting up for a while whilst I was still asleep. I checked to see if she'd noticed, but she was still asleep, so I lay down and went back to sleep.

Two/three nights later, I remember dreaming about my 'meal-time group' - the group I was in, where we sat at this specific table every meal time and who I got to know really well. They were planning on going for a walk on Friday morning (in rl) and I dreamt that they'd been in my room and I could hear their voices talking to me, but then I was awake and sat up in bed again, and it was like I was still in the dream but awake at the same time - I couldn't see them in the room anymore, but there was more than one bed, but I could still slightly hear their voices. I then remember waking up a bit more and things becoming a bit clearer and realising I was in the room I was sharing, but I thought the bed was empty. I looked a bit closer and it wasn't, and I realised it was just some sort of dream or confusion. I think I might have even spoken out during it, but I can't really remember. So I just lay back down and went back to sleep.

I have no idea what's gone on here, so if anyone has any information or advice or insights, I'd be really grateful to hear them. Thanks

Hello ahdm: I don't really know much about this sort of thing. My thought would be that it simply reflects the fact that you were in an unfamiliar setting with people you don't know well. Perhaps this created some anxiety of which you were unaware. But it came out in these dream / awake episodes. As I wrote above, I don't really know anything about this. But my perspective, for what it's worth, would be that the important thing here is to not dwell on this & cause it to develop into more than it is. If it continues to be a problem, then perhaps at some point it might be something to talk with your doctor about. My best wishes to you...

Hi Skeezyks. Thank you for your reply!
Surprisingly, I actually wasn't anxious last week at all, apart from the presentation we had to do at the end. I shall try not to dwell on it, but I was just wondering if anyone had any similar experiences, as it is nice to know, as I'm sure you're aware, to have someone else who has experienced something similar so you are not alone. Thanks all the same

maybe you were tired or something? or your mind wished to wake up but still sleepy? or its just some sort of sleeping issue?
if it repeats many times i think you should check.

i was once pretty tired and hardly moving then when i sit on bed i imagined touching glass piece, felt it and put in box but when i focused and rechecked the box it wasnt there so i understood that maybe i was just dreaming while being awake

my brother speaks while sleeping sometimes when he's tired then wake up

I have a sleep disorder NOS. My brain wave patterns get scrambled as I sleep, so that I can get waking patterns in the middle of a dream sequence. The result is that dreams where that happens take on a measure of reality that makes it tough to know if something was just a dream.

What you describe here reminds me a little bit of that. It sounds like you might have had your sleep pattern disrupted by any of a bunch of factors. If it's rare for you, I wouldn't worry about it. If it continues or gets worse, I'd see a sleep specialist for an evaluation.

I have a feeling my sleep pattern was disrupted when I went away for the course. Different bed, sharing a room with someone, different part of the country, different sleeping times. It hasn't occurred since then, so that's my theory. Thanks for your reply.
