My sleeping pattern is just all wrong. It dosen't help that I work from home, so I have no set schedule that I would need to follow (if I set one for myself, I just ignore it because there are no consequences).
I always put off going to sleep. I start working late and I'm most productive around midnight. But when I do finally go to sleep, I can't wake up. I just ignore the alarm clock in the morning (I aim for 8 hours) or turn it off without remembering (and I tried pretty loud ones as well as ones that were difficult to turn off. I have even tried putting them on high shelves that I can reach only from a chair, but I just wake up with it next to me, turned off and remembering nothing). I have actually got very aggressive in the past when someone was trying to wake me up. I of course didn't remember the incident. I usually wake up by myself after 10-12 hours of sleep. Noone needs to sleep this much... I also don't remember dreams when I sleep this long, which is quite a big deal for me. If, by some miracle, I get up after 8-9, it's plenty. I can wake up quite easily if I have slept less than 6 hours, but it's too little for me and I get tired during the day. Do you know how to get this in order? I was always hard to wake up, but it's got a lot worse over the years. I take no medication. |

Hi Ameline, I've had trouble (and still do) maintaining a normal sleep schedule, especially sleeping at night because I worked overnight for several decades. What I've done is roll my sleep forward, so that my sleep schedule travels around the clock. I don't know if this is helpful but I've found it helps me to establish for a few weeks a schedule where I go to sleep early and wake early enough in the morning. I know your issue is sleeping too long, but maybe changing the times you go to sleep and wake up might do the trick. Good luck

This is sort of my problem. For instance now. It's 4 AM and I shouldn't be awake at 4 AM. I've got a job interview at 4 PM, which is basically when I wake up since I usually can't fall asleep until 7 AM. I've tried setting my alarm to early, but I either completely sleep through it [like turning it off in my half-sleep and not realizing I've turned it off] or I fall right back asleep after trying to make an effort to wake up. I'm at a point where I'm sleeping too long and I hate getting out of bed. A week ago though I was, I dunno, slightly manic or something, because I was going with only a few hours of sleep or occasionally with no sleep at all for like 30+ hours. So now that my schedule is all kind of wrecked, I can't get myself to WAKE UP. It's awful actually. I'm going with my roommate shopping tomorrow at like 10 am so hopefully that will actually force me to wake up and reorganize my sleep schedule? If it works, I'll let you know! :B
