I'm studying my 3rd year(of 4 years) of my bachelor's degree in engineering and after some research, I have found that there's a really good chance that I may have narcolepsy. Upon a lot of searching, I have found Provigil(modafinil) to be the best medication. I don't want to tell my parents about this, because they start crap about will power and me not using Indian medicine properly(which didn't work). Is it okay to start using provigil? I've heard that it has minimal side effects, and besides... i'm not abusing. I just can't take being a loser anymore.
I'm hoping this will make my life better. P.S: I'm not a new member, I just can't find the new thread button anywhere else |

Hello never. happy: At the top of your screen, in black lettering, you should see where it says: "Forums". If you hover your cursor over that word. the first thing you'll see in the "drop down" is the word: "Index". If you click on that it will take you to a listing of all of the forums here on PC. Each forum listing also includes a description of the purpose of the forum. You can go down the list, find the forum you think is the one that is most appropriate for your topic, click on that forum listing, & it will take you there.
As for your question, whether or not it is okay for you to start taking Provigil is really a question for a medical professional. No one here on PC is in a position to make recommendations regarding the appropriateness of taking, or not taking, a certain medication. Members may offer you their experiences with a particular medication, if they've been on it. But as to whether or not it is appropriate for you, this is a question for your doctor or other medical professional. ![]()

I'd always say get advice and authorisation from a medical expert- not only because they will be able to watch over you to make sure the dosage is right and your getting the best treatment for your condition, but also because there may be side effects or reactions you may not notice and an expert might. Potentially it could save you unwittingly harming yourself or creating damage which can't be corrected. If your study is this important to you then surely it warrants getting professional medical advice rather than risking it all with self medicating?
I am assuming that you're in the US so not sure how the laws work over there, but I was sure that once you get to a certain age, your rights change and what is shared with your parents is up to you rather than done so by law as it is when you're a child. If you are worried about a medical person informing your parents, maybe ask them first where you stand on that because it may be you don't need to share anything you don't want to. |
