I had the most awful experience while falling asleep last night. I also had a similar episode about a week ago but not quite as intense.
First off I'm going to state that I have C-PTSD and as a result I already struggle with sleep and nightmares. Last night, after I shut the lights off and got in bed, I had an anxiety attack from flashbacks. No known trigger that I can think of. I had a very hard time getting comfortable so I was tossing and turning a lot. Finally I found a position that was comfortable enough to start drifting off. As I was in a half sleep mode (still conscious enough to recognize I was dreaming) I began hearing a very loud and intense roaring sound that made my brain feel like it was vibrating. It caused my vision to shake (in my dream of course) and it felt like lightning shoot down all my limbs. It caused full body tremors and when I finally was able to snap out of it I realized that during the whole episode I wasn't breathing so when I woke up I was gasping for air. It happened about 5-6 times before I was finally able to fall asleep. The dream I had wasn't even anything frightening. I was in Super Mario, just wandering around when the roaring began. Even after waking up and just thinking about it or even thinking about other things the roaring would begin. Sometimes worse and sometimes less intense. The episode that happened last week wasn't quite as intense (at least now looking back on it and comparing it to last night). But in my dream I kept getting attacked and every time anything hit me or I fell I would see a bright flash of light while the feeling of lightning shooting through my body caused my limbs to shake. I don't like this. Does anyone have any insight or experienced anything similar? I'm seeing my therapist today so I'm definitely going to mention it to her. |

Your anxiety is causing this, I hope you and your therapist can get to the root of it. Good Work.
