Hi everyone,

I'm looking for opinions on something. I've had sleep issues since childhood. Lots of sleep walking, talking, night terrors, nightmares, kicking, screaming, biting, paralysis, never EVER feeling truly rested, etc. it's always worse when I'm under acute stress. I've asked my doctors for a sleep study on several occasions but they look at me like I'm nuts for asking and tell me that the only reason a sleep study is done, is if apnea is suspected. I do not suspect apnea (but who knows really, maybe I have it) have you ever had a sleep study for the reasons I've explained or have any knowledge indicating a study could be helpful for my issues? I have nightmare after nightmare most every night and wake very untested, even when not under stress. When stress is added to the mix, I've walked in my sleep, bit my poor husband, talk and cry and plea for help in my sleep. The nightmares are horrible while battling stress. Thanks in advance for your input if you have any.

Hi,
You definitely need a sleep study.
Ask your doctor fora second opinion and if the option is not there, change your doctor.

Thank you. What do you think the sleep study could help with? Is there something they could do to stop what's happening to me? Especially help me feel rested cause that is really killing me. I have gotten a second opinion....it was from my neurologist and she told me her husband was a doctor whose focus was sleep issues and sleep studies. I thought for sure she'd help but she told me the same thing my doctors told me when I've asked a few times "sleep studies are only conducted if sleep apnea is suspected" I'm wondering if it's because they can't do anything about other sleep issues ? I'm going to switch to a new provider. My friend told me last night that Kaiser is only good for healthy people and is a death trap for chronically sick people.....the evidence I have suggests she is right. When I brought it up again to my doctor recently, especially concerned with having BIT MY HUSBAND ....he blamed it all on the medication I take. I said "how can that be when I've had these issues since childhood and wasn't taking meds then". I think they just guess and assume and it's really upsetting. At least I have a plan to change providers and hope upon hope that the new provider will restore my faith in the healing profession. Thanks for your input.
