Does heat and dehydration act as an incubator for nightmares? I've been lucky to not suffer from ones so severe in a couple of days but now it seems I can't fall back asleep because I'm scared that I'm still dreaming. In its own way my reality is my nightmare therefore I don't know which ones better. Also in my dreams I can run and walk but I'm physically disabled in the real world does that mean anything? I'm tired of being tormented by my mind and most especially it happens right after I pray.. please enlighten me
Thanks for this!

It's been an hour since I was last asleep here's to trying to go back to sleep again at 3 in the morning. I feel like I have my mom's sleep issues though she never talks about having nightmares just that she doesn't sleep well. I used to wake up three to four times a night continuously but now I've narrowed it down to one on good days, she never listened even as a child when I told her of my nightmares how I'm always being chased and someone wants me dead.. they are so visual that many days I wake traumatized and sweating never screaming or crying just sweating.

Are you on any medications? Some pain relievers and other medications can cause problems with nightmares. Also, being afraid to sleep is naturally going to increase your chance for nightmares as well. It hasn't happened in a while but I have struggled with sleep paralysis issues and when I have an episode, I usually end up having nightmares for a couple of nights, which I'm sure is induced by the severe anxiety a sleep paralysis episode causes me. I break the cycle by keeping myself up late watching or listening to something that comforts me like a favorite movie or album, and I let it keep going through the night so I can resume listening to it if I wake up. It seems that focusing my attention on something else eases the anxiety, and once I can get a few hours sleep without a nightmare, it usually breaks the spell. Another trick I've used in the past is spending some time before bed visualizing an awesome dream I want to have (about flying, or something sexy, or going on vacation - whatever fantasy I choose), and put all my waking attention into imagining every detail of what my dream might look like. I may or may not actually have the dream, but it does help keep nightmares at bay. Good luck!
Thanks for this!

I never really thought of that but it is possible that heat and dehydration could cause bad dreams. I could be wrong, would like to know for sure though. Take care and stay hydrated.

Heat and dehydration can cause bad dreams and nightmares, in my experience. Dehydration, definitely can.

The only thing I have found to help nightmares especially reoccurring nightmares is therapy.
