Last night I dreamt I was eating a fried chicken sandwich at a picnic table. This asian girl grabbed the sandwich from me, I said hey that's my sandwich, she took a very small bite and returned the sandwich to me. I ate a little over half and saw my ex the con sitting at a different table and told other people at the table maybe I should give the rest of it to him. Asian girl returns and takes another bite of the sandwich messes it up, than I decide not to give it to the con. I woke up than.
Any idea what it means?

You went to bed hungry, lol? Well, seeing as I'm avoiding work... let's just read into it a bit. Maybe the chicken sandwich represents freedom (okay, I'm laughing here, but bear with me, lol). But you know, free as a bird, and eating it means taking that freedom into your being... and maybe you watched Orange is the New Black season-1 about the chicken - that definitely represented freedom and a better life. So the Asian girl is you, and she represents the more refined, dainty, controlled aspect of yourself - a part of yourself that stands in the way of truly granting your ex some aspect of freedom that you sense he needs. Perhaps it's your forgiveness that you're withholding, or you're ambivalent about allowing him certain freedoms.
...I'll never think about a chicken sandwich in the same way, lol. Last edited by wordshaker; Feb 01, 2018 at 08:41 PM. |

Hi. I know there were other people in your dream but I wonder if there's any partial significance in this interpretation. It's from a dream meanings website I like to visit. It says [amongst other things]: "To dream that you are eating alone signifies loss, loneliness, and depression. You may feel rejected, excluded, and cut off from social/family ties. Eating may be a replacement for companionship and provide a form of comfort. Alternatively, eating alone reflects independent needs. Also consider the phrase, "what's eating you up?" in reference to anxiety that you may be feeling."
But, there were other people present in your dream as well, so: "To dream that you are eating with others signifies harmony, intimacy, merriness, prosperous undertakings, personal gain, and/or joyous spirits." So, there's a few things there. Interesting. |

I believe that this is, in general, a positive dream. The dreamer is listening to her dreams and trying to understand what they mean. The more we do this, the more helpful our dreams become.
In the real world, eating food gives us strength and energy, and is needed for growth. In the dream world, eating food is a sign of psychological and spiritual growth. I have noticed that many of the dreams that I look at will have mythological or religious symbolism. Therefore, we should try to determine the symbolism of the chicken. Although the chicken is sacred in many cultures, I suspect that its meaning in this dream is to symbolize the nurturing part of the dreamer. From https://www.smithsonianmag.com/histo...orld-87583657/ : · Chickens were, and still are, a sacred animal in some cultures. The prodigious and ever-watchful hen was a worldwide symbol of nurturance and fertility. · Matthew 23:37 contains a passage in which Jesus likens his care for the people of Jerusalem to a hen caring for her brood. See also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicke..._and_mythology . As for the Asian girl, she sounds like the dreamer’s shadow. (Say what?) The dreamer’s ex may represent him or he may be a symbol of the animus. Okey dokey – it’s time to take a closer look at these two people. Who are these people? To understand how they fit into this dream, we need to take a look at the theories of Carl Jung. Jung (1875-1961) was a Swiss psychologist and a somewhat younger contemporary of Freud (1856-1931). Jung divided the psyche (which is what we call the mind) into the consciousness and the unconscious. At the center of the psyche is an archetype called the self. The self is one of many archetypes, which come from the collective unconscious. 1. The consciousness contains those things that we know. For example, I know that I am sitting in front of a computer. The ego is at the center of the consciousness. 2. The unconscious consists of the personal unconscious and the collective unconscious. a. The personal unconscious consists of those things that we once knew but have since forgotten. For example, I don’t remember who my English teachers were in high school. The personal unconscious is the source of complexes. b. The collective unconscious contains those things that we never knew. The personal unconscious is the source of archetypes. i. An archetype is a symbol of something that we do not really understand and can never have a complete understanding. It is somewhat akin to a primeval image. For example, if you dream that John Wayne married Oprah Winfrey, a Jungian would probably say that John Wayne, Oprah Winfrey and the marriage are all archetypes. ii. There are all kinds of archetypes: animals, people, objects, shapes, events etc. iii. Because we can never know the true meaning of an archetype, we can never know the true meaning of any dream that contains an archetype. iv. Many religions, myths and various folk stories resonate well with us and hit us at a gut level because they contain archetypical symbols. c. The Asian girl is probably the dreamer’s shadow. The shadow is someone who is always the same sex as the dreamer. The shadow is sometimes someone who is a different race and is somehow the opposite of a person. When the shadow is repressed, it can become dangerous to the other people archetypes. For example, I sometimes see the dreams of religious people who are dedicated to their religion but who have violent, uncontrollable shadows. However, the shadow can also be much less threatening. For example, I remember the dream of a woman whose shadow had old-fashioned tastes in clothing. d. The ex may actually refer to the dreamer’s ex. Or he could be a symbol of the animus. The animus, like the shadow, is another archetype from the collective unconscious. The animus is always male and is only found in the psyche of women. (FYI – the anima is the female counterpart and is only found in the dreams of men.) During the course of our dreams, the animus is capable of going through 4 stages of development: i. At the first stage, he is the primitive man or the muscle man. At his best, he is a Superman or Tarzan type who fights evil and saves the damsel in distress. At his worst, he is a violent brute. At this first stage, in particular, the animus can appear as a group of men. ii. At the next stage, he is either the romantic lover or the man of action. Jung gives Ernest Hemingway as an example of the man of action. iii. At the next stage, he is a man with a message. He is typically a man with some authority. He might be a preacher, a college professor, a politician or someone similar. iv. At the fourth and final stage, he is “the wise guide to spiritual truth….” Jung gave the example of Gandhi. Mythological deities, such as Odin or Loki, are probably symbols of the animus at the fourth stage. For more info on Jung theories, see https://monoskop.org/images/9/97/Von...mbols_1988.pdf . Back to the dream – In our dreams, the sequence of events is often important. When something good happens in a dream it is often followed by another good event. Likewise, for something bad – that is, bad follows bad. The dream happened at night. The darkness of night is associated with the unknown, the unconscious and the feminine. The “you” in the dream is probably a symbol of the dreamer’s ego. Thus, eating the chicken sandwich indicates a strengthening of the ego. This is good. When the dreamer’s shadow grabbed the sandwich and took a small bite, she is strengthening herself. The dreamer sees her ex, who apparently would like to have some the sandwich. If the dreamer had given him some of the sandwich, it probably would have helped him grow. BTW – If the “other people at the table” are also men, they sound like they are parts of the animus. Even if they are not parts of the animus, they are almost certainly symbols of archetypes from the collective unconscious. So how does the dreamer get them to do what she wants them to do? How can she make them behave? She doesn’t – at least, not directly. We change these dream people by treating them and thinking of them as real people. When we listen to them and treat them with respect, we help them and help ourselves. Oh BTW – although most of us do not want to suffer, I believe that suffering helps us to grow spiritually and psychologically. You may remember Hebrews 12:5-6 (New American Standard Bible--NASB): 5 and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons [and daughters], “MY SON [and my daughter] , DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD, NOR FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM; 6 FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE SCOURGES EVERY SON [and daughter] WHOM HE RECEIVES.” As I wrote above, this is a positive dream. It shows the strengthening of the ego. The shadow and the animus also make an appearance. Hope this helps and is not too confusing. Bob Last edited by Lugus; Feb 04, 2018 at 03:39 AM. |
