Last night, I had a dream that I was in a bathroom talking to this guy next to a marble sink. He had long hair that was similar to mine. He was saying something about how it looks better when I combed it a certain way. This guy was a good friend of mine, and I was appreciating his helpful advice. We were talking about different things and socializing.

For some reason, he appeared to want to shake hands with me. I took this as a normal gesture of friendship. However, swiftly, unexpectedly, and out of nowhere without any warning, he grabs my arm instead of my hand, trips me, and uses his other hand to trip me into the marble counter using a martial arts move that actually does exist in real life. Somehow, I managed to land in such a way that the throw didn't do any real damage.

Strangely, despite having been savagely attacked out of the blue and managed to get back up after the sudden sneak attack, in this dream, I did not strike back in any way Not only that, but in this dream, there was no adrenaline. No fear or even the slightest thought that I needed to defend myself or retailiate against this sudden and unexpected attack. Instead, we were having a conversation about it. Like I said, this dream was BIZARRE.

The man in the dream was a part of you. He was you. This dream shows how you handle yourself in real life.

Like the first poster said, I would agree with this person being you, or being someone you can trust. Even if that "person" is just your mind. You talking to yourself. But this self is somehow an "other". At some point they become someone else (although this could equally be interpreted as self sabotage) and they betray your trust.

Because this is a dream, I don't think you strike back because there's a level of subconscious control where you're "aware" that there is no threat, or no harm to be feared. That's why you're comfortable enough to talk to them. I feel as if though you know someone like this in real life. Where this dynamic is mimicked, it stands out for some reason.
