I want to begin by stating that my dreams have always been very vivid, but this one was more realistic than usual, aside from the circumstances of course.
The snippets of these dreams are as follows; last week I had a dream that I was sleeping, while I was sleeping I viewed my body from another humans eyes, who was sleeping with me. While sleeping, a softball forced it's way in to my mouth and I swallowed it. The softball slowly traveled down my throat, and I awoke in the dream as it became stuck in my throat. When I awoke in the dream I also awoke in real life, clutching my throat in shock. This wasn't the first time I had way off the wall dreams, so I thought nothing of it. But last night I had another dream of the softball. Same scenario, I was sleeping in my bed with another human, but this time through my own eyes. I felt a tightness in my stomach, and as I touched my belly I could feel the mass of the softball through my skin, rolling around in my stomach. I could move it around inside me from the outside. When I pinched my skin around the softball, it began to move strangely. I continued pinching and rolling, as I continued the softball began to get closer and closer to the surface of my skin. Eventually it pushed its way through my skin and the softball transferred through my skin and into my hand. What in the absolute crap do I make of that? Current life setting; I'm married, with a kid on the way. I'm currently deployed living in a tent, the dreams took place in my tent (in the dream and physically). Very low mental stress, however physical stress is higher than I'm used to. |

Hey alilgoat well I did some online research and found out for you, that dreams about choking (the softball stuck in your throat) means you are suppressing your emotions (possibly about being so far away from your wife and unborn child). Think of that phrase, "all choked up." You may be intentionally holding in your fear, anxiety, frustration, sadness about being so far away from your wife. And since you are with other soldiers, maybe you feel like you can't express these feelings for fear of being judged or ridiculed or something? Just guessing...
It totally makes sense that you're having these choking dreams. Don't repress your emotions. That's not good for your mental well-being. So, that's why I think that the softball is a metaphor or symbol for your emotions that you are choking back. That's my take on your dream. It's your subconscious mind telling you, "Hey, buddy, stop repressing these emotions." It's probably why you wake up gasping for air. I hope you can find a way to get those emotions out. Even if its just sending a message to your wife and tell her EVERYTHING that you've been repressing (hence, these choking dreams). Maybe that will make you stop having these choking dreams, and make you feel better overall. And, thank you for your service. *salutes you* ![]() |

The softball means you feel blocked from expressing your inner feelings.
