Since I was a child, I have had sleep issues. What I am trying to figure out right now is if I have night terrors. I wake up most nights with at least a startle. Many times it is in relation to my husband making a noise like a cough or him moving. Other times, I wake up screaming. I have no recollection of any dream preceding the awakening. Sometimes I wake up and see things--flying spiders, things crawling on the walls, things falling on me, a person standing in the room. Sometimes I wake up totally disoriented. I can't figure out where I am, or, more disturbing, who is in the bed with me. I takes me several minutes to try to answer these questions. I wonder if I am experiencing night terrors, but I vividly remember these episodes. I thought with night terrors, people have no recollection of the event. Do you have any thoughts?

I don't have anything to offer with regard to this myself. I've experienced episodes of sleep paralysis for many years. But while sleep paralysis can be terrifying it doesn't resemble what you describe. Here are links to 3 articles, from PC's archives, on the subjects of sleep terrors & nightmares:
Sleep Terror Symptoms Things that go "Ahhhhh!" in the Night Nightmare Disorder Symptoms

Hello MagicDragon. Going by my own experience and understanding of night terrors, there may need to be a profound sense of fear or dread present before it can be called a 'night terror'. I'm not an expert of course, but I'd say you're definitely experiencing some sort of significant sleep disturbance at the very least.
