I have huge sleep anxiety.
Firstly, I was hospitalised and put on a combo of benzos and sleep tablets. For 3 months.
Question number one - is it possible to return to a normal sleep patterns after a long period of sleep meds?
Secondly, I'm now on Lithium and Mirtazipine / Remeron. Will my sleep EVER be natural?
Is there anyone out there on this combination
and how is it going.
Really want to get back to sleeping unaided and scared I won't be able to.
Would love to hear some of your experiences.
Ps I'm not Bi Polar and am 42.

Dear fer111,

I am so very sorry you have these sleep difficulties. How awful. I have been afflicted with terrible sleep problems and have been on many sleep medications and am now on one called Trazadone. It seems to help me a lot. This is NOT advice for you though. I am not a doctor or medical professional and cannot give advice that you or anyone could or should rely upon. Hopefully you and your doctor will be able to find something that works for you. Sleep problems can be so horrible, draining and demoralizing.

Hopefully others here will have better words for you than my poor words!

Sincerely yours, Yao Wen

Hey @fer111 I strongly suggest a sleep study. Many times its not just mental health that causes sleep trouble.

Once i was on strong sleeping pills for six months, without them i could not sleep for an hour, when the side effects started, i had to give up this idea and normalize sleep. i was greatly helped by various kinds of teas, mint, chamomile with a cross between valerian, you can also try to switch to homeopathic tranquilizers in order to reduce the load on the nervous system formed in connection with the refusal of the drug.

at the moment I am sleeping OK - mirtazipine and Lithium - I dont know which - is helping me.
Im just doubly afraid that if I go go off either - I will not sleep.
also, I feel a degree of guilt (i keep telling myself "uou wouldnt sleep without these meds - you're cheating")

Thats how my brain works!

Fer111 you need a sleep study to find out what’s causing your insomnia. A sleep study will determine if the cause is physiological or psychological. You could have a sleep disorder that’s caused by sleep apnea or some other physiological cause. Or, your insomnia could be caused by nutritional or psychological causes.
