The other night I dreamt I went to my mum's house. I didn't recognise the house, and the interior was partly burnt. I wanted to get my mum out of there, but she needed some convincing.

At some point a man that was my father in the dream, but just a friend of my father's in real life, came and I finally got her to run away with me. We went up a slope, almost as steep as a ladder and he followed, trying to grab my ankle.

I tried to kick him so he would fall (which might have killed or seriously injoured him) and woke up.

Any thoughts? I don't usually dream of my mum and I was very surprised that I was trying to save her from my dad no less.

Do you perceive your father as a threatening for your mum, you and the household, in general?
Are you having arguments with him?

I also killed my dad in a nightmare after him cutting off my mother’s head. (All in the nightmare) but it has sense.

No, they've been divorced for over 15 years. She feels threatened by him, though, I think. It's why she doesn't seem to consider moving to the town where he, my sibling and I live. Mind you, I don't think he ever did anything except be emotionally callous.

I never argue with him, he just lectures me and I nod along. I think he means well, but empathy just isn't his strength and he doesn't really know me very well (because I don't tell him **** because he just wants to solve a problem and I don't like being seen as one).

Very few occasions a dream can be literally translated.

My father wasn’t a bad person either however I symbolising killed him because he was very controlling of my mother, and I am the older sibling so I was kind of support for my mum since my dad was also controlling with me.

You are only killing this part of him you don’t like and you probably was present when your parents had an argument before the divorce.

You seem being overcoming old wounds but the unconsciousness is still there to tell us that it will take a time to heal them completely.

That's ok, there is little we have so much of as time, though at times it seems the opposite is true

Maybe it's because she felt trapped with him and I moved back to the same town. Feeling trapped is something she and I have in common...

But the man wasn't your real father. I'm wondering why your "father" in the dream was your father's friend?

I honestly don't know. He was my father's business partner and friend years ago. I don't think they're still in contact.
