I don't sleep well. I can get to sleep but I can't stay asleep. I've tried melatonin, but it hasn't worked very well and I may be taking to much anyway. I was at 8-10mg which I think is getting close to the limit. Last night for an experiment, I only used 4mg and got about the same amount of sleep.
I've seen it recommended for people who can't sleep to give sleep restriction a try. Where you set your wake up time to when you need to wake up, but then go to bed only 5 or so hours before that until you can sleep the entire time, then move your bed time. Has anyone tried doing this? Thoughts? |

Hi Agent…I’m on a sleep schedule and also don’t do well on melatonin…I occasionally drink chamomile or peppermint tea but try not to overdo it. Even that doesn’t help all the time.
I just hope you can find what works for you and let us know how you’re doing. |

Well with the best of intentions, I tried to do this last night. I set my alarm (which I never use. dogs need to go outside) for 5:30 and then figured I'd go to bed at midnight. But at 11 I was really getting sleepy and decided to turn in then. I slept OK, though still too many times of waking up, but I fell back to sleep fairly quickly. I ended up getting out of bed at about 4:45. I feel pretty good generally. I've been so used to going to bed at around 9 and getting up about 6:30 that I don't know what to do with the extra time. Most of my reading is on a tablet, which is not good at night before bed, so I guess I'll need to look into paper books. I'll keep trying to see if I can get myself to a shorter sleep schedule for a time and hopefully that will cause me to sleep more soundly for that time. Exercise would also help I'm sure. I think I will see how I feel this evening and plan my wake up based on when I need to go to bed, rather than working backwards.
