Personally as a night owl, I cannot stand being talked down to by early birds and them bragging about about they never stay up all night and they go to bed on time and have a “good sleep schedule”.

My mom is one of those people. She fusses how I am always behind schedule and how lazy I am and wishes that I work as hard as she does. She says she does not want to stay up at night and hates the dark all while expecting me to feel the same way.

I cannot sympathize with her because she is dismissive of my experiences and claims that we night owls are not normal and are “destroying our health”. It pisses me off to no end.

I am a night owl too. Seems to be written into my very nature. It is hard when people criticize me for it.

Summer is different for me though, since when the sun goes down all kinds of unpleasant bugs start to show themselves around my house. Cockroaches in particular can give me panic attacks although I have tried therapy and medication to get over that.

In summer, I try to get to sleep around 9 pm. It is hard, though, for my night owl nature to adjust to this.

I don't think there is anything wrong with being a night owl. It hurts a lot when others are dismissive of our natures.

I’m very sorry you had to go through that. I agree. It absolutely sucks when people are dismissive of us because they don’t understand we go through.

I am a night owl, and at times like now, I can't avoid it if I want to. A nurse comes back here occasionally and asks if I think I can rest. I think to myself, 'Well, I could if you would stop agitating me by asking me that.' My parents never even gave me a bedtime; I would if I could sleep. My personal favorite is when one of my precious half-aunts tells me, "You have your days and

your nights mixed up." Really? By the way they act, they get their gene sequences mixed up. Where is it written that I am awake during the daytime always, which must equal? That is normal, and everyone should be. @Yaowen is right, as it is presumptive of those to dismiss anyone's nature. They are not the standard by which the universe was set.

My sleep schedule is typically seasonal unless I have some on going health issues. Winter we have 14-15 hours of darkness starting at 6:30-7pm so I'm usually asleep by 8. Summer it doesn't really get dark until after 10pm, and also summer is usually when I have my SUD relapses so I fall asleep around 1-3am.

Most annoying is when everyone else is a braggart about their ability to sleep by snoring all freaking night.

The best way to deal with this is to tell them they simply don't understand. People have sleep issues and it's a very real thing. I'm being tested for narcolepsy and wish I didn't have it. If they get nasty, I just tell them it's easy and lazy to be ignorant and rude. Then I suggest they start reading and find out about sleep issues as diseases.

Seeing the dark sky getting light as day begins to break. Sometimes I wish it could be nighttime forever.

I've actually been up all day today since 5 am. Not sure how I've accomplished this. Too much sleep at any time of day, is not fun. The dreams come hard during this. It's always worth the effort.

That’s incredible. One time I’ve actually stayed up for a whole day, that meaning I’ve stayed for 24 hours or longer.

I hated every single moment of it. Especially the fact that I’m a very light sleeper. It made me miserable and I was happy to finally get some sleep for a decent amount of time.

I've been up for full days recently, but I'm pushing caffeine and activity in the afternoon when I usually drop for a minimum of an hour. Maybe I've found the key.
