Okay, I know from the get-go, that using another nicotine delivery device is really NOT quitting smoking. But let me just share my exp with the ecig....
A 35 year smoker, me, who has tried every, I mean EVERY, means of quitting from prescription Chantix (made me insanely anxious) to the patch, to gum, to cold turkey, I've been unsuccessful ... over many, many attempts to quit over the entire 35 years. I guess I'm just weak, but I also believe there is something IN cigarettes other than just the nicotine from tobacco. I mean an addictive something the tobacco companies add (other than the many chemicals and carcinogens) to enhance dependence and addiction. I say this primarily because of my recent exp with the ecig.
Before purchasing an ecig kit, I did a lot of research. They are manufactured in China but you can order the "juice" from American manufacturers. I bought mine back in Dec '09.
From the first puff, I no longer wanted a tobacco cigarette. After a couple of weeks, I realized I could choose not to puff on the ecig and I didn't have the anxious deprived feeling of trying to quit. Now, I can take it or leave it, truly. I still take a puff on the ecig every so often, just because it's enjoyable, but I also, for many days at a time, simply don't want to fool with it! That's amazing, considering I could never have done that with a tobacco cigarette.
I'm not advocating that you go out and buy the ecig kit. I just wanted to share my exp as a lifelong smoker, and the ease with which I've been able to get away from that obsession with smoking. For example, I could go on a trip for days, weeks, and not have to take the ecig along with me, and I'd be fine. I could never have done that when I was an active smoker.
In fact, when I bought the ecig, I did so with the intention of using it as a quitting device, though at the time I had my doubts. Now I can say for certain that it has been the most effective means of quitting for me.

What is an ecigarette? I've never heard of it.
I want to quit smoking and much like you have tried everything - including hypnosis which failed terribly!

I'm not a smoker but my husband is. Are you talking about the battery operated cigarette looking device - my husband has this one called the 'Green Cigarette'. It comes with a battery charger and replacement filters and you puff on it - it releases a nicotine vapor. That's great you had success with it - good for you.

Belle...I guess I thought everyone had heard of the ecigarette. It is just as LynnP describes: a battery operated nicotine delivery device that looks like a cigarette. I can share with you the model I finally ordered if you are interested. I suggest you do research as I did on the Internet.

It really truly IS something I can take it or leave it, unlike my addiction to tobacco cigs.

I'm SO on board with the ecig. I'm severely allergic to cigarette smoke unless it's either the pure nicotine vapor like the ecig or 100% chemical free tobacco. Even if I go into a room that had been smoked in 10 minutes ago I'll have an allergic reaction to where I can barely breathe and have awful coughing fits. I think that says something about the embalming fluid, etc that they put in those things! My friend was doing the ecig for a while and he could actually smoke around me without sending me into anaphylactic shock. I could even take a puff here and there myself. I hear they are going to be outlawed though... tobbacco companies aren't happy about the invention. Big shock there.

RadioFlyer...I ordered my ecig kit from an online company called FRESHSMOKING.COM. I bought the model: Joye 510 Automatic, after doing a lot of research, and this seems to be one of the best models.
I ordered juice from Johnson Creek Smoke Juice online. I bought a lot of different flavors, but had a bad reaction to the highly flavored ones, and now I just stick with the original formula.
I'll answer any other questions you have.

Hi Seeker... Thanks for the info.. Will check it out.. Although I won't ask what the "juice" is... lol..........Think I will stick with the non flavored ones... This might be what can help me quit smoking..... I hate the smell of cigarette smoke.. I hate the addiction... I am one wild woman when I don't have a smoke for a day...........I'd put a LOL here but actually it is not all that funny how I get when withdrawing from cigarettes... Non-smoking days, here I come ....

RF, If you order a kit, it will come with some of the pre-filled cartridges. You can specify when you order, if you want "high, med., low, or zero nicotine." The cartridges can then be refilled with the "juice," which contains the nicotine. I ordered from the American manufacturer I mentioned previously. Also, the suppliers I mentioned are very good to answer your questions. If you want to taper down from the nicotine, as in quitting, you can do so by going thru the different levels, just as in the patch. I haven't found that to be necessary, though I have all different levels of the nicotine juice. Whether I'm using the high or the low, I can abstain as long as I want with the ecig, unlike I was ever able to do with tobacco. PM me if you have any questions.

these things are amazing, seriously these are the new era of smoking. I believe e-ciggs will replace analog cigarettes almost all together.

I am not trying to peddle this product to people, but this device is really like a miracle to those who may want to quit or at least find a healthier cheaper and overall much better way to handle their cravings.

I have personally converted about a dozen people to e-ciggs all of whom were heavy smokers, none of them miss their old cigarettes, but it does take time to get used to the e-ciggs, you need a little patience to get the hang of using the device, and at first it may seem to cost a lot because you aren't buying a 5 or 6 dollar pack at a time. But in reality it is the cheapest way to smoke, within a month or two you'll cut your smoking cost by half at least, mine went from 175 a month to 30.

I really want to encourage people to look into this, I think in a forum such as this if someone is able to overcome an addiction such as smoking it could have many other positive benefits to their health. so here is some information and some links on the matter. If anyone has any questions feel free to contact me and I will personally try to help you out should you want to try it.

also for anyone who reads this that is already a fan, please look into the attempts to have these devices banned, big tobacco companies are fighting to keep these things off the market as it threatens their profit margins. If you need more info again contact me.

Please share this information with other people

Hello, Chaosrob,
You are correct about the cost. I did invest over $100 initially, but for several months now, I have spent only a few dollars here and there, including juices and spare parts. I've saved a lot of money. I also feel a lot better, and can choose to abstain from the ecig in an easy way, which is totally unlike the addition to the tobacco cig (analogs).
Thanks for your feedback on this subject.

I agree with you that the ecig is in danger of being banned, primarily because it is such a positive alternative to tobacco.

I love the sound of these but I do have one drawback:

My dad ordered an e-cig and tried it, but couldn't get used to it, simply because he loves everything about tobacco cigarettes: the taste, the smoke, everything. I haven't tried the e-cig yet, but does it taste anything like tobacco cigs (or anything at all)? And does it create any smoke, even if it's just steam/vapor?

Good questions, Atrey...
It does create a "smoke," which is steam vapor. In my own experience with it (and this coming from a lifelong smoker), once I tried it, from the very first time, I no longer wanted anything to do with tobacco cigarettes.

This is fascinating, never heard of the ecig but happy it works. I quit cigs about 100 days ago and it was tough at first. Still have cravings on occasion. I used something called a nicotine inhaler at first. Then like you, I could take it or leave it. I am happy for you in your quit good luck in keeping it going
