I thought I would share a little trick that is helping me cut down on the cigarette war. I thought about it the other day and just had the guts to do it yesterday and boy howdy it works wonders.
I put my cigarettes in the kitchen in one drawer and the lighters in another drawer. That way I have to haul my butt up off the couch to get a cigarette and I have to want one really bad to do that because I am lazy. I found that instead of smoking every 15 minutes it is once an hour. I am trying stretch it out to every hour and 15 minutes now. Then I will try for every hour and 30 minutes and then you get the picture. Just thought I would share my little tip. Jan

Well this only lasted a day before I took the cigarettes out of hiding but I still maintained the idea of I will only smoke one an hour, then it was one every half hour then it was darn it I'll smoke as much as I want I'm an adult.
So now I just finished all the cigarettes I have in the house and I'm going to empty my ashtray and I'm going to put my ashtray in a hard to reach area along with my lighters and maybe it will work this way. Jan

Since I am an addictive person, I maintain that if it was fairly easy for me to quit smoking after 40 years, most people might be able to. What helped me most was something I read - that cravings last only a few minutes on each occasion. Last through those few minutes and you're okay until the next time. Use those few minutes to review WHY you want to quit smoking. Do you like repairing holes in the carpet? Do you like all those wrinkle lines above the upper lip [If you don't have them, you will]? Would you like to wake up in a blazing fire if you accidentally dozed off smoking? Coincidentally, I was started on the antidepressant Wellbutrin, however, and it might be that this gave me an advantage. This med was advertized to help smokers quit smoking, but it was under another name. I didn't take it but a couple of weeks, but this could be where the credit lies. billieJ
