It has been about 6 weeks since I had a cigarette but boy the urges are still there. I know if I was still at home the temptation to go to the neighbors house to bum off of him would probably be too strong.
I got busted from the doctor last time I was in the hospital because he tested my urine and found I had smoked in the last 2 weeks. So since then I haven't been able to go home. What do I do when I do get to go home to battle the urges? I have books to read and decided to pick up a new hobby of counted cross stitch. It will keep my hands busy and it is somewhat cheap. My mom used to do it so she is going to help me get started. I went to the DMC website and they sent me a few kits and patterns so I have that. But I need more ideas. Jan

It took about two months before the nicotine left my system; a while longer for the phlegm to lose the charcoal color emanating from my lungs. The hacking stopped sooner. The rasp a bit later. At some point I noticed the smell of smoking on the clothes of smokers. Took quite awhile for the stale smell of smoke to leave my office. At about six or seven months, the urge to smoke returned for awhile. After working so hard to quit, I was not going to give in. Like most addictions, when something is taken away, a healthy replacement is very helpful. The above link offers some suggestions. Six months is a long time, Jan. I told myself I can do another hour, and tried very hard to focus my attention away from the urge. The process was repeated as necessary. After 31 years of smoking, I quit 12 years ago. Be well. |

Went to the movies and other public places where smoking was banned. I brushed my teeth a lot and took many showers. Those were times and places that I never smoked before.
I also cut a drinking straw to cigarette length and held onto it. It made a good psychological crutch. I would "smoke" the hell out of that thing!! Good luck...you can do this.
