Apparently the quit smoking motto in the UK is 'never give up giving up'. No matter if you succumb, keep trying.
I have been smoke free for 2 months now. I stopped for several years but after having moved countries and other factors I began smoking again this year. I was afraid I wouldn't ever be able to let it go again as stressful situations really make me reach out for the ciggs & I would chain smoke. But part of the reason why I was able to stop at least was the knowledge that smoking didn't make my situation any better, nor lessen my anxiety. I realised that my anxiety was with me whether I smoked or didn't smoke; but that smoking actually made it worse in the long run because I would worry about it, my body felt bad, my sleep was dramatically affected etc etc, plus smoking just internalised whatever preoccupation I had. To me it began to feel like a kind of self-punishment, self-harm. So, though it's only been two months, perhaps learning to live with the anxiety in my body was one factor. Anyway, no matter when, how or why... keep trying guys! ![]() |

Apparently it can take up to 4 attempts to quit for good. I last smoked 12 years ago, still miss it occasionally, but I don't get so out of breath, fewer coughs and have saved a small fortune - so I so glad I stuck with being smoke free.
Well done to you want2shine - you've done the hard bit.
