I finished high school in 1969. Unsure when my older brother finished, but about the same time, his first job was with R J Reynolds Tobacco Company. I can't say how long he worked for them, but maybe ten or more years.
He once told me years ago, there was the Hurricane Camille that hit coastal part of Mississippi. It was a big one. Of course the people down there were out of all kinds of stuff. Well R J Reynolds used the occasion to pull off something that must have helped there sells in a huge. R J Reynolds makes or made Camel, Pall Mall, and Winston among other brands, and types of tobacco.
What R J Reynolds did was take a large truck down there, and gave away cartoons of cigarettes for free. My brother said those smokers could not get to the trucks fast enough.
All tobacco companies lied for many years, and knew full well their products were killing, and damaging people's life's. At the same time they were making huge monies, and we were willing to pay any price required.

Smoking was a habit I'm glad that I only had for a year. I am glad I made the decision to quit.

I'm gasping now with COPD. I didn't quit soon enough, but I'm glad I quit at all.
