I got accepted for a 3 hour per week voluntary position today.
It made me feel so good to have my skills and ability recognised, to be given the opportunity to do something constructive and meaningful, and to be accepted to work as part of a team. I don't care that it is "only" 3hrs and voluntary work. The fact is that I am working up to my full capacity, and doing what I love. I'm stoked. Jade ![]()

That's awesome. Volunteering is great. It's a really good opportunity to use your skills. I know that volunteering is part of what's kept me sane in the past 18 months that I've been out of work. It helped me keep my skills sharp.
Hope you really enjoy it. splitimage |

It's tutoring with young people learning diffiiculties and interrupted educations. My son has learning difficulties and was accepted into the program I used work in. I couldn't stay at the same site with him due to conflict of interest. A similar program in the area, that I didn't know about, heard I wasn't doing anything atm - and invited me to an interview. I love tutoring. My son reckons he wants to stay home with me because I make it so much fun (suck, suck :P). Actually, I think my relationship with him, at this stage of his life, helps me stay relevant with youth culture and youth issues. and I like that. Education was my safe place as a child - it was my happy place where the interaction with learning was safe and predictable - it was also a good form of distraction from the pain, and source of self esteem. I wouldn't have faired as well as I did if not for my personal relationship with education. Many others have had bad experiences with education and I love helping them "untangle those knots" so they can feel good about themselves and have sufficient skills to function adequately in society. My love for it means that 3 hrs pw is something I can usually continue to do no matter how bad my symptoms are.
