I'm trying to switch my thinking from believing I will fail, to believing that I will succeed. This is about a standardized graduate school test if that matters.
Suggestions please. |

I replied to your post on the Anxiety forum but in my experience, when I am anxious it is usually right before an event and at the start of the event. After I 'get going" I am fine. I took the GRE and I had anxiety about it; however, it did not last the entire four hours of the exam.
Do the prep work that is necessary (study course), roll with the initial anxiety, and then move through the test at a rate of speed that allows you to put your best answer down and then move on. By the way, if you have made it far enough in your academic life to even consider taking the exam, you ARE competent. |

The first thing you need to do is to ensure you've done the right amount of study, if you're not sure go out onto the internet and look up some accelerated learning techniques. Once you're satisfied that you've done the relevant preparation that's when the belief strategies come in.
Belief is like a table, when it has four legs it's stable, once you start to knock the legs away it wobbles and eventually falls, you need to put some more legs under your table of belief in passing the test. The first leg was mentioned above...preparation, to add more legs think of everything you've succeeded at in your life, don't dare tell me nothing because I know that is rubbish, everybody has had success and tragedy in their life at some point. If you can't think of anything ask the question, what if I could think of a success if life what would it be? Get as many successes as you can written down on paper, what did you do to succeed in those situations, how are they similar this situation, keep building and building more legs for the table until your belief is unshakeable, then build a few more. |
