I was a very pretty 18 year old, and a boyfriends mother said "she has a pot belly".
That's all she had to say. Why do I remember all the CRAP that mean spirited people ................... ![]() Sorry about the "trivial" post. ![]()

Hi Fuzzybear,
I'm sorry you're remembering that hurtful comment. Do you know what made you think of it? People can be so insensitive, unkind and rude! (((((((Fuzzybear)))))))) EJ |

says more about her than it does about you. He who laughs last laughs hardest. Hang in there.

Yes it does say more about her. She was a mean woman. This boyfriend and I split up and got together several times. She was much meaner later on but I blocked most of it out! All I remember clearly is her comment "xxxx isnt unfriendly, just very shy like you"... I'd been trying to lose that shy label for years...

I tend to remember hurtful comments too. They hang around my heart far longer than necessary but I guess that is just me not being able to let go.

I had a Grandmother that was that kind of person....always picking on something that she could notice & she would look or the littlest thing to pick on. I finally got sick & tired of her crap & told her off. That didn't go over well with her, but I sure felt better after that.
Sometimes we have to stick up for ourselves when people are known to pick like that. It is their problem....not ours.....it is important to keep that in mind because they would find those things to pick on with everyone around them....not just you...it just happened that you were the one that was there to be picked on. Remember, it's them, not you, Debbie

My stepmother use to worry about other people's "teeth"! You had to have good teeth to go out with me, LOL (not that anyone ever asked as I was Wallflower #1 in my youth).
I think the bad comments only affect me to the extent I think they're true. You were a very pretty 18 year old; who cares what a boyfriend's jealous mother said? Ah, you hadn't thought of that? Took me a long long time to realize and "feel" just how jealous my stepmother was of "me"/my youth, etc. Think of it, your boyfriend's mother's day was past and it was now your and his day. I've begun to develop a lot of compassion for my stepmother in the last few years; too bad I waited too long to be able to show it to her! :-(
