I've never liked talk shows where people scream at each other but her shows always were about improving yourself and spreading positivity. My daughter believes this (which is Oprah like)--you must believe you can and visualize it to achieve it. I am a Debbie Downer compared to Oprah and my daughter. I should know better and try to remind myself to stay positive....

![]() My POV is that dwelling on what is wrong may be one cause or it might make worse depression for some of us so. I think you have to try to get into the habit of acknowledging what is wrong but then do or think of something else. Of course, while we are suffering and processing trauma (some trauma's are just too much so we can end up processing them years later), we need to talk about it even though it is negative. In my case, I talked and talked about my attempt in 2015 and other things to the point that now it is time to move on. However, I do occassionally bring it up if I think it will help someone (to show I can relate). I am trying to complain less and love everyone in my life to the best of my ability. Yes, we have to go no contact with abusers but many of us do insensitive things sometimes and it's not good for us to go no contact with the world. Also, if we have crappy jobs or other situations we are stuck in--the negativity around us rubs off!!! That is why it is important to find a positive escape somehow and positive friends (I have no friends other than my family--that is why I am still at PC despite so many wonderful people who have moved on--bless them and I hope they moved on to positive things since most of us find this place because we are suffering or in crisis ![]() ![]() |

Spent way too much of my life worrying about things but I am learning to stop worrying about others as much. Being in charge of myself is all I can handle! |

WARNING WARNING! If you have any sort of PTSD from being yelled at, don't view the Youtube video below. I am afraid it made me laugh. Sometimes, I think human nature is to be entertained when we see others experiencing pain we can relate to but relieved that it's not us! She should have thrown things at that T!

1. Take responsibility for your life.
2. Believe in yourself. (My way of putting it is--If you love yourself, loving people will love you.) 3. There are no mistakes. (Only after I hit rock bottom did I start figuring out who I really am and what I really want.) 4. Meditate daily. (For me, that is simply spending some time everyday having time to contemplate on my life--sometimes it happens when I walk.) 5. Take care of yourself. (Put yourself first so we can fully be there for others when we are with them.) 6. Go within and connect. 7. Be grateful. 8. Be the master of your life. (You get what you believe but you also need to go for it.) 9. Keep your vibration high. (Don't be negative.) 10. It begins and ends with us. (WE ARE THE BOSS!!!) |

Observe your mind but don't let it control you. Try to put a positive spin on challenges. Don't get sucked into negativity. |

I have always read a lot. I used to read novels, nonfiction, news, etc but beginning in 2016, at least half of what I read is about mental health.
![]() However, though the article makes some good points, I think there are some things in this life that people (especially people who have suffered trauma both deserved or undeserved and bad luck) might always feel sad about. It is more like we have to not feel guilty about feeling joy even though there is a part of us that will always feel sad. We can still dream and feel happy even if our life will never be the same again. Just being a survivor able to wake up and smell the coffee is a good thing. ![]() |

And I think this is wishful thinking to some extent (not acknowledging sadness sells to people desperate to run away from reality

It was the best therapy ever today. When I mentioned that I sometimes hold back things because I don't want to be judged, my T said, "You know what that is all about--that is self judgement." So true.

I am giving myself a pat on the back for working through many of my internal emotional issues in 2019.
![]() I have come to believe that I have an empathetic side which causes me to take on other's emotions and be confused about what I need verses just getting upset because the people around me are upset so I learned from a very young age ways to escape from my feelings. However, as I got older, it became harder to not get triggered in certain environments like family gatherings, call center jobs, etc. I am learning better when I need to detach from others emotions and feel my emotions instead then acknowledge so that I can then detach from my emotions in a healthier way. When I first came to PC, I was wanting to read about others who were struggling as I was with suicidal thoughts, etc. despite the fact that so much of it was triggering for me. From 2016 through 2019, PC helped me explore my emotions. That exploration helped me heal. I have so many goals in so many facets of my life for 2020. My desire for 2020 is to stay in my own lane and work on my goals. I am a little better now at not accidentally taking on others goals and jumping into other peoples lanes. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
