Hey, everybody!!

I posted this in Creative Corner, but it helps my self-esteem, so I want it here too.

These are just some pieces I have made. Sure is fun to get feedback on what I have made by hand. Plus, I get to determine what colors to use. I LOVE that part of crafting, plus now I am actually wanting to craft again. I haven't felt that in forever.

So, in this case, I chose almost every color there is, LOL I love this yarn. It is called Blacklight. Red Heart Yarn makes it.

Crafting in Recovery to Better My Self-esteem.

I like to double up yarn when I crochet. I added a light blue yarn to make this scarf and used a big crochet hook:

Crafting in Recovery to Better My Self-esteem.

To make this beanie hat, I doubled up with a bright green yarn:

Crafting in Recovery to Better My Self-esteem.

If I get lost in a snowstorm, I'll be easy to see, LOL

Also, here are some different Halloween earrings I have made:

Crafting in Recovery to Better My Self-esteem.

I should redo those so the witches look like they are flying towards each other.

I love the green BOO beads and the evil eye ones, LOL

Crafting in Recovery to Better My Self-esteem.

It's nice too that so many pieces to make crafts are available in stores. And lots of stores offer classes!! You know, some crafting looks complicated and some are, but what I do is really simple. And it suits my needs perfectly!!

Can you think of any crafts you'd like to try?

It's really nice to make something that is functional and tailored to what you need. Plus, it is a GREAT Break from my day in and day out life. It gives me something fun and useful to do, plus, it contributes to making me feel better about myself.

I like to knit as well. Sometimes I doodle and write poetry. I used to make jewelry. It IS fun.

@bshaffer836

Thank you!! Really, those are easy to make. You just need someone to show you how. That is a goal I am working towards.

I love knitting, and it's been an integral part of my recovery, particularly my addiction recovery. I donate a lot of it to charity.

I've also restarted playing my harp, which is great.

@HappyCrafter

I'm doing ok thanks. I'm coming up on a year sober in a week, which I'm really happy about. I'm having some meds challenges as I'm tapering off one of my meds, but I really want to be off it, so it's worth sticking out the side effects.

Re knitting - I love knitting accessories, fingerless mitts are my favourite, scarves, cowls, hats, and lace shawls which are a lot harder but I love. I've also subscribed to a knit an afghan club and every month I get the yarn and patterns for 3 new stitches to make 3 blocks which will eventually be knit together to make an afghan. I love using multicoloured yarn, and really bright colours, it just makes me feel happy.

On the harp, I'm kind of starting over at the beginning at the moment, focussing on technique until I build up some strength in my fingers. My favourite music to play is celtic and Latin American. They're very different from each other, but I like the challenge of the different styles. I'm lucky, I have a great teacher, who is only charging me a tiny portion of her normal fee, for lessons.

When is your year? OMG!! That's HUGE! Congratulations!!! I have an anniversary coming up next month; I can appreciate the work it takes to stop using.

Ohhhhhhh, LACE!! I have seen some knitted and crocheted lace. It makes me drool!

Latin music on the harp? Which styles, please? Can't say I have heard Latin music on a harp!! Your teacher sounds like a dream too. Well, I am headed to youtube to search for Latin music on the harp! I am serious! I am not making fun of you, I am curious now!! xoxoxoxox

@HappyCrafter

It'll be a year on the 17th. I'm finding it hard to believe I actually made it.

As for the Latin American, I play a lot of Paraguayan music - but I'm not tied to it. I'll basically play anything that looks fun. If you're looking for looking for Youtube videos, look for one called "Bell Bird" It's old, but amazing harp. Also look for anything by Alfredo Ortiz - he's amazing, and there are a lot of covers of his songs on Youtube.

Have never had the patience for knitting, but can certainly appreciate the skills that others have.
