My T asked me if I ever do things just for fun, not to make anyone else happy or for any reason other than my own enjoyment.

Does anyone here do things just for their own fun?
Wanna share?

I haven't done anything just for myself yet, not since a road trip I took by myself a few years ago. That was fun and just for me.

Oh god! I am still trying to work that out. Washing my hair and buying the latest scientific american magazine is a treat for me! I really focus on small things. When I worked I did and had alot more. But since my last episode I have had to do with less and quite frankly it just wasn't as important. Need to learn for be nicer to myself though.

Going to the Movie theater when a good movie comes out, works for me!!!

It feels good to go alone sometimes too, or usually I'll go up to the corner

coffee shop and have a coffee once in awhile.

Pretty exciting aye!!!...LOL

I used to read for fun too, but now it's more of a chore or a necessity. I kind of abuse coffee....

I used to journal a lot. I should do that more.

I like to read, and hike in the woods, and color mandalas. A hot bath sometimes is nice.

I've started watching movies with my boys lately (Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark) and that's been really relaxing and fun.

Sometimes I go to Barnes and Noble and just wander around, because I really LOVE reading...but that gets expensive.

Camping! That's my favorite, but we don't go that often. The more time I spend outside, the better.

I like to go buy things (usually clothes) for my self. I guess it's not a good habit because I do it too frequntley. but yeah, that's what I like to do for myself.

Oh, I also like to just have a "time out" where I just sit down and have total silence.

Interesting question and very interesting responses. I see that I am not alone in this! Hard put to answer what is actually "fun" for me these days. But when I relax, I will buy myself a sub at Subway, rent a DVD, and eat the sub while watching the film,LOL. I also like to crochet and draw on my art rocks.

Usually I like to read books, especially horror, sci-fi, fantasy, history or whatever. My second favorite thing is watching horror movies and playing RPG games.

What I would really love to do is go take a walk in the woods (wish they were close to me) and travel around. But really this is a contradiction since lately I don't even want to go out on the street. My mind is adventurous but I'm just letting life go by....

reading something because it takes my fancy rather than because i have to. playing computer games. going to a coffee shop and enjoying the change of scenery. taking some time to wash my hair / moisturize etc in a self soothing kinda way. listening to music. walking mindfully for the journey rather than the destination. eating something special (ice cream right now).

i have this problem where something that starts as a self soothing strategy then becomes integrated into part of my daily life which then ends up as a 'just barely getting through' strategy or a psychological necessity that isn't self-soothing at all... that has already happened with some of the above. sigh.

just trying to enjoy more moments... even the ones that are occupied by things i (more objectively) 'have' to do.

:::TRIGGER WARNING:::

I like to take back roads out to the most remote place I can find. Sometimes at night to see if I can find a place with no light so I can see the stars. When I get there, with no one around, I take all of my clothes off and lie down on the ground. Feeling the still warm earth below, and seeing the vast openness above, I come to know that though there is reality that is hard and firm behind me, the vast universe of potential is out in front.

Why nude? I don't know. Maybe it's to do with not being bound or restricted.

I get out and away alone, where the pressures of life are gone for a few hours. I'm only responsible for myself, answering to no one. I "bottle" moments like that for later consumption when I need a "time out". Close my eyes, see those stars, feel the earth...

Yes, I do I do - it's when I do I still sometimes spiral down but when I don't then I spiral down even faster.

I love hang out with friends - but sadly not easy to find friends who could very much be on the same wavelenght or hard to find the right time to even hang out with o.k. friend. There's where the internet is a Great Blessings!

I love dancing too - wish I could do more of it.

A hot cup of coffee and a good book, usually one of the classics like Jane Austen (where everyone gets what they deserve good and bad). I also like to color, it's cheap and soothing. Sometimes I print out mantra's like "I am a good person and deserve to be happy" and color those.
