I'm trying to improve my communication skills and expand my vocab.
If I start writing in a journal daily will this help with my goal I'm trying to accomplish? If so, what should I write about? The last time I was forced to write journals in high school I felt like I was complaining too much in my writing. |

Hi kylin. I guess it depends upon what writing "rules" you set for yourself. If you don't write in complete ENGLISH words and use text shorthand, probably not. If you don't write in complete sentences,it probably won't help you reach your goal either.
If you wish to become more creative with your ideas and thinking and speech, then writing in any fashion will help, though. A good way to help with vocabulary is to look up words you hear or read and aren't sure about. Try to add a new word every day, or at least every week. Use it often for a while, to help remember it. You might find that writing in a journal becomes laborious and that you would rather just write your feelings down without worrying about grammar etc. I'd keep the journal even if that occurs. ![]() Reading more will also help with your communication skills and vocabulary. Find magazines or books about things you enjoy and it will be less like work. Good wishes!

What I do it I write poetry to expand my vocabulary, so a journal works too! As long as it's written. I tend to read a lot, so if I come across a word I don't understand, I write it down and look up the definition. If I like the word, and want it in my vocabulary, it's inserted into my poetry.
And if you write a journal, but feel it's all complaints, well, that's why we keep diaries and things. We need something to vent to. So it's fine if it's all complaints, just make sure you're happy about stuff too and it's all good! |
