In another thread, I was discussing my abusive childhood, and how I was not able to raise my own children adequately. Then I got to thinking about how different the child protection laws are today, from what they were. If today's laws had been in place when I was a child, I would have been removed from my home, and rightfully so.
The discussion brought back a fleeting memory. I remember as a child, praying to God that one day it would be illegal to beat your child with a belt. (What's really cool is that my husband just interrupted this post by calling from work, and when I mentioned it, he said he had the same prayer.) And today, at least in the state we live in and in many others, that prayer is answered. It *is* illegal to beat your child with a belt. Thank you, God, for listening to the prayers of two little abused children. |

What a happy day it must have been for you realizing that. I do not have children and probably never will because I am afraid of repeating the abuse my parents put me through. It is sad in a way.
