Hey,
Personally, I find it a bit difficult to explain how the brain functions because the explanation is quite extensive. Just know that what you're experiencing is quite typical for those who have suffered some form of trauma. Experiences that you haven't been able to handle or consolidate. The memories (plus emotions and fears attached) that are surfacing are coming up for processing and integration (implicit memories turning into explicit memories). You have to, in a sense, re-live them in order to move through them. It can be quite tricky because when those memories surface it feels as though you're experiencing that trauma again in the present when you're actually not. Peoples natural response when confronted with that is to avoid it or push it away. Defense mechanisms. However, that doesn't quite work because the brain will keep resurfacing those memories until you do sort it out. That's why people recommend therapy, so that you can have someone there with you to help guide you through it. Someone who will be there to help you process those experiences and support you while you move through them. It's okay to be confused! it appears as if you're trying to reconcile and make sense of your experiences and that can be very confusing. what would you like help with exactly? ![]() Last edited by bohogypsy; May 18, 2012 at 02:18 AM. |
