TRIGGER FOR SOME MAYBE. Mention of child molestion …. Stay safe…..

Following is a description of the movie, An American Haunting......Based on true events that took place in Tennessee during the 1800s, where an unrelenting demon haunts and torments a teenage girl and her wealthy family. It is based on the alleged only documented true case in U.S. history of a spirit causing a person's death. Ok this is the description of the movie.. And I thought I was about to watch a cool horror movie.

The first time I watched the movie, the cd must have been dirty, so it kept stopping for a few secs or so and then would continue. I didn't have the interest at the time to clean the cd so I fell asleep off and on during the movie

Ok so the movie ended and I was curious as to what I missed. So of course, I played it again. This time I think I was memorized by all the thunder effects and lost the point of the movie. I love thunder and windy nights so all the thunder in the movie made me calm and sleepy. So again I missed the "subject" of the movie...

Sooooooo I play it again...... Oooo my goodness. The movie now had my attention esp when in the first l0 mins or so, they mentioned that everyone in the village was afraid of this lady because she was rumored to be a witch. And she was not very happy because she was used. anyway (Because of my history, growing up, there also was a lady in neighborhood that was said to be a witch and to stay away from her. My grandfather did I guess both white magic and black magic too. So therefore, spells, witches caught my attention) Guess it is a family thing... anyway

The young girl in this movie is being attacked I guess you could say by an evil entity. She is having nightmares and also sees this child that nobody else can see. The child has a hat covering her face so you cannot see her face, but when she lifts her head her face reveals a frightening, scary face. She is very scared and has no idea why this is happening to her, and her family doesn't understand either........After awhile the entity starts attacking the girl's father while the girl is like in a daze or something....

Anyway close to the end of the movie the girl remembers her father sexually assaulted her in her bed while she was sleeping. She had no memory of what happened until now. Her father had been very ill and so after remembering she goes to his sickbed, and she gives him a teaspoon of what looks like medicine, while he is half sleeping, but I guess it was poison or he choked, anyway the father died..

So at the graveyard, the young girl is looking at her father's grave and sees the little girl again, but now the lil girl is no longer scary, and has the face of a normal young child.. The child within, I guess is now at peace...( see this lil girl that only the girl could see was faceless. I can relate to this as many years in therapy, trying to find the child in me that was abused has always been faceless... I can never see her face, but I can see the back of her head only)

The reviews of the movie does not even mention, well those reviews that I have read so far, child molestation. Seems the reviews focus on the evil entity which I am not sure what the entity was all about as of yet. But once the father passed, the entity also went away.. Such a hunting movie indeed.

I do not know why I wrote this book about this movie. I just keep watching it over and over and over. I hope I didn't mess up the movie for anyone who may not have seen it and given away the plot. Well, the plot as I understand it to be and that being childhood molestation.....

Oh yes, I do know this is just a movie.. But another thing caught my attention was how innocent the father acted. I think he felt guilt but he would never admit what he had done. Just to clear the air, NO my father never, ever touched me. Although I was molested by others in the neighborhood.

Am very sorry that I wrote so much.. Just this movie haunts me and I keep watching it.

i saw the movie and i thought it was a good movie. the father got what he diserved and i liked the fact that the girl came back to help the other girl and her mother know what is going on... but when i first watched i would have never guessed it was about child abuse. i probably wouldn't have watched it.

Same here.. if I had known the movie was about child abuse I would not have watched it. I thought it was a horror film.. Actually in some ways, esp the child abuse, it was a horror...But not the kind of horror movies I enjoy.....

It sounds like an interesting movie... is it triggering to watch? I like that kind of movies... if you leave out the molestation part. I'm just scared it might trigger me...

Tanya, I do not know what to say. I have watched it prob 6 or 7 times and I seem to be "drawn" to watch it and I am not sure why.

It could be "triggering" to some. I was not triggered by the movie, but then that is "me". I wish I could say "yes" you will or "no" you won't, but I just don't know. Maybe if you watch it, make sure someone is with you, just in case k..
