2 years ago I was a bartender, and was being stalked by a patron. Long story short, I ended up within the same social circle as the stalker at a party (outside of work) and was drugged and raped with a mixture of ketamine and pcp. I remember being completely helpless and immobile. I wound up in the hospital, very confused state of mind, wanting to get an MRI done because the guy bashed my head in and I thought I might of had a concussion. I didn't explain the story to anyone, being in shock, and confused, but they ended up ordering a psych exam instead of an MRI. During the evaluation I admit to acting bizzare, I was still bein affected by the drugs. But it was all a blur to me, literally, also because I didn't have my glasses with me. They said within 10 minutes "I think your schizophrenic." And had me sign my sanity away. I had no idea what I was signing. We'll 1 year later a friend of my attacked called me saying he knew what happened, enlightening me of what exactly I was drugged with. I had somewhat of an idea but didn't feel comfortable telling a complete stranger during an informal 10 minute evaluation. The time in the hospital was torture, they injected me without a court order my second day. All I felt was side effects, mind you, ketamine "psychosis" does not respond to schizophrenia treatment. It's been a long journey, I'm just wondering if anyone has advice on what to do. I've been off mess for a year and feel completely fine. Should I sue the hospital? Should I report the rape to the police? I just don't think this is fair or humane at all. My family relationships are ruined but I don't want them to find out I was raped.

Well that's just plain stupid of the hospital. Schizophrenia can only be diagnosed after someone has been psychotic for half a year, and drug-induced psychosis has been ruled out.

I want to encourage you to contact the RAINN, the Rape Abuse Incest National Network. They have a better idea of the options out there. You can chat with them or call them. In my experience they're very understanding and helpful.

I've had ketamine through IV and it's scary stuff. People who were with me in those days tell me I talked crazy. I don't remember much of it, just a few flashes.
Thanks for this!

They kept asking if I was a drug user, and I'm not, so I said no..but wasn't comfortable enough to rationally explain the course of events...but for some reason they didn't drug test me until at least my 3rd day in the hospital if I remember correctly.. The whole thing is mortifying & unimaginable. The guy who attacked me stole so much from me. I don't think being misdiagnosed is something I can fix. And if I sue, this whole embarrassing ordeal will be public record.

I'm sorry that happened. That sounds awful. I will second contacting either RAINN.org or a local sexual assault center. I'm not sure what the statute of limitations are on assault in NY, but I would def seek support if you do decide to report it. I have had some pretty crappy experiences with law enforcement when reporting any significant amount of time after an incident. I'm not saying all law enforcement are like that, but I would want someone that knows both the local laws and can back you up with "professional knowledge" around for it. I want to say I am surprised by the hospital's actions, but I've seen too much of that kind of stuff to be able to say that.
again, sorry you went through all that.

The best thing to do is tell your family and the hospital. The more that know, the higher possibility you can have to catching the rapist. If they won't listen, it's up to you. I suggest going to RAINN like 'ThisWayOut' did. I pray the best for you.
