Barriers to finding the right treatment

Finding the suitable treatment may take some time, effore and patience before:

-Many free services have long waiting lists
-Private therapists are costly
-Many mental health practitioners do not have the specialized therapy training needed to help women deal with the effects of trauma.
-Services in languges other then English are scarce, as are services sestive to diverse cultures.

Even so, it's important to keep looking for treatment. Many services offer waiting lists, so make sure your name is put on them.

Where to find help

- Woman's health centres
- Community health centres
- Therapists in private practice (including psychologists, psychiatrists or social workers)
- Sexual Assault Centres
- Women abuse crises lines
- YWCA
- Women's shelters
- Spiritual Centres
- Family service agencies
- Family physicians
