I am completely dependent on my mother. I have no one else in my life, I can't look after myself, I don't have a job, I don't have my own place. I feel like there is no escaping her and I might as well through in the towel...

Hello Porcupine_girl: This must be most difficult for you. It's been many years ago now since I was dependent on my parents. But I can still recall what that was like. There does come a point at which we just need to be independent of our parents. And, when circumstances make that not possible, it can be difficult to say the least.

I hope you can, in some way, find the strength to persevere & to figure out a way to become independent. You deserve to have your own life...

Hi porcupine_girl. It may take a while before you are ready to break away, but there are certainly some small things that you can do to help you on your way to independence.

Outside interests will help build your confidence and connect you with networks of people that you can build trust with. I left home at age 14/15 and agree that the world can be quite overwhelming, but baby steps will eventually get you out there. Taking that first little step is the hardest I know, just keep working on those small things and have some solid goals in mind.

Be kind to yourself Porcupine_girl

That must be really hard. Do you have a mental health team. They might be able to get you into a group therapy where you can be with peers who you can relate to then over time you could develop friendships and pissibly gain some confidence and independence.

I find praying helps. God listens.
