I was sexually abused by an immediate family member from about 8-11 yo. I told my sister when I was 16 and she told my mother who never ever said anything to me about it (I just found out recently that my sister had told her). Anyway, recently it has been a topic that has been talked about in the family - because I reported it to the police. My mother at first pretended she didn't know about it at all. But now, now she is getting very hostile with me and is questioning me like I'm in the witness box.

I feel sad and frustrated that she keeps interrogating me. I tell her I don't want to talk about it, but she continues to press and press. She is not being simply curious and wanting to understand.

Any advice on how to deal with this?

I would simply tell her You aren't going to discuss it with her. Period. end. Are you getting professional help? I hope you will.

That's just horrible! And yeah, your mom's behavior is completely out of line. She should be supporting you throughout this, not cross-examining you.

I admit I'm not the best at advice, but I'd tell her that you definitely need to breathe a little and she doesn't need to cross-examine you. Probably as gently but firmly as you can. In the meantime, take care of yourself.

It sounds like your mother at first did not want to believe it and she is at the point where she is angry and still doesn't know what to do with her own emotions in this situation.

Yes, I've been in counselling for 3 years with a trauma t. That's how I managed to go to the police. I was silent until then. Thank you x
