I found out a lot today about why I have certain hardships where others don't and exactly how much it has impacted my life. My friend who has studied neuroscience and brain anatomy very heavily addressed a lot of neurological issues I've had for a long time. So, to put it simply: I suffered from a lot of head trauma growing up. Between the ages 4-6 I had a really bad one take place in particular. Without the intention of doing so, but it happened, the back of my head was slammed hard against the dull corner of a wooden rocking chair. It was hard enough to cut into my scalp and I bled quite a bit, I also suffered a bad concussion. When I told my friend this (her also knowing about me occasionally losing the ability to see out of one of my eyes, having difficulty speaking sometimes, I'm dyslexic and have astigmatism) said that the head trauma I suffered could have impacted all of these things. My memory lapses (or blotched memory) I suffer from when reflecting on my past could also have to do with damage that was sustained to the hippo campus. Maybe she said the speaking issue had more to do with the right frontal lobe injury, I know she said it had to do with my issues with my short term memory. Apparently it also explains the grey matter (I think it was) that was found in my brain. Like old injuries that scared, or something of that nature.
I guess I'm writing this because 1. I'm trying to remember what she explained. 2. To see if anyone else knows about this or has dealt with something similar. According to her, she's amazed I was able to begin writing at such an early age, because I shouldn't have developed the motor function enough to do it for at least a few more years. I was writing at five or six, pretty well. Though, I couldn't read well (I don't understand that). According to her, especially with the head trauma, I was really ahead of the curve in that realm. Kind of made me feel better about being intellectually inept about everything else, as a child.

I've suffered traumatic brain injury a couple of times, and I have also studied the human brain a lot. It's a fascinating topic, imho.
![]() Don't know if you've checked it out, but I did open a chat/support group for PC members who have various types of brain injuries. http://forums.psychcentral.com/group...disorders.html Come and check it out sometime. Lots of information on there! ![]()
