It happens because you love and give yourself freely and unconditionally to others... because that's the most wonderful present you can give to anyone in the world.
 Because you feel deeply and really care. You took a chance and leaped. And what an amazing way to live your life, that's REALLY living your life, one of the reasons we're alive. To experience! You won't regret giving love to others without expecting anything in return when the end comes... that will be what fills you with joy - you gave everything out of sheer love for others and wanting them to be happy - it probably gave you joy.Giving/loving without any expectation in return is going to be a "losing" deal in the end. Or at least "losing" in the traditional sense. But you are actually the "winner" in the end. Far better to have lived and loved with full passion and feel a loss, than having done nothing and never feeling anything. What a dull, grey world that would be. That's not living life to the fullest. Don't trade being that kind of person for anything in the world. It takes an amazing heart and soul to be that way. You're a diamond in the rough. I'm sorry you're feeling the pain and loss... but if you can do that... imagine what it's going to feel like when the right person comes!!! And I'm sure they're looking for you....You have something special inside of you, that no one can ever take away from you  Love yourself!
