Do you think this might be the result of abuse?
I'm really confused about this.

My brain just freezes a lot, especially when I would disagree, but not only.
I just can't think. Especially lately. I feel a strange and strong fear to think sometimes when talking to someone or even online.

Very difficult to describe this..but so frustrating.

Hello lights: I don't really know anything about this. But my personal, non-professional opinion would be that it's perhaps indirectly related. (I also struggle with the sort of thing you describe.) I think it's possibly mostly due to anxiety & depression. But of course these sorts of mental health issues were, in your case, perhaps brought on to begin with by whatever abuse you experienced. At least this is my thinking with regard to your post.
Thanks for this!

My brain freezes. It learned to do that so I'd shut up and avoid any physical altercation.

I don't know if this is the same for you, but yeah, I understand this.

I'm not sure why this is happening. It's like my brain decides that it's safer to freeze. It can also be some anxiety but how much....
Maybe because I've bee programmed to let the other person be right and agree with them because otherwise something bad would happen. And it's easier to not think than to come up with my own thought which can never be accepted...

Yes. I have the same sort of thing, and I know that it is due originally to abuse -- being punished for even expressing the "wrong" thoughts.

There is a third part to "fight or flight". There's "freeze" too. So it'd make sense to have this response in the midst of high anxiety.

This happens also in therapy a lot, I'm sometimes so overwhelmed and basically afraid to open up, there are some very painful emotions there...that my T invokes in me. So often he says a simple sentence and I understand every word but cannot understand the meaning. If this makes sense. My mind just goes blank and I feel like some impending doom is on its way.
