Hello.
I was wanting to know if our therapists are mandated reporters when it comes to talking to them about abuse? |

One of my therapists didn't tell anyone when I asked him not to.
My pdoc told me that if there was any present danger he'd be legally required to tell law enforcement. I think my therapist is legally required to do so as well, but he didn't and I'm glad because if he had it would've just made an even bigger mess. I do think it's important to ask if they'd tell law enforcement when made aware of an abusive situation. That's what I asked my pdoc, and he told me what I wrote above but didn't push me to tell him why I'd asked that. He did however give me the option to tell him in vague terms what was going on. "Someone is doing this," "someone did this to me." Stuff like that, without naming people.

I think it depends on if you're a minor or not, or it could also depend on the laws where you live. Where I live, no one is allowed to notify any law enforcement or any other service department unless you're a minor. The therapists in the military hospitals nearby, if someone in the situation is active duty or retired, they say they must legally take action but I don't know the extent.
I would definitely ask for the privacy act papers you signed when you first started going to therapy with this person and review the laws and regulations on there. If you didn't get one, it'd be a good idea to ask for one. In the US they're usually legally obligated to make sure you're aware of your rights through a brochure, word of mouth, or papers you sign.

My therapist made my life a living hell by reporting gibberish to a bunch of nosey gossip mongers. I think he should be reported.
