Long story short, I live with an emotional abusive mother, and I am currently unable to leave. The thing is, I'm walking on eggshells at home. One tiny mistake, and she becomes really.. well, abusive. And each time she seems to be a bit irritated, I'm freaking out. Most of time I have weird reactions, I kinda "freeze", I am literally paralyzed by fear, it feels like I can't move or talk anymore, and my whole body is giving out. I can stay like this for several minutes, and even when this "sate" ends, I still feel quite a lot anxious. I don't know how this thing is called, fight-or-flight response ? Freezing ? Anxiety attack maybe ?
Anyway, if one of you have any tips about coping with this, I'd like to hear it ![]()

Breathe.
Close your eyes and imagine wind, not only wind, but warm wind that's blowing the smells of jasmine and rose petals all around you. Feel the sun. Know you're ok, because everything is temporary, even fear |

It’s “freezing”. It’s a response to trauma, whether real or imagined. I do this too.
