I got into a physical fight with my niece and her boyfriend

Last night my niece begin hitting me, yelling at me, shoving me, calling me horrible name then afterwards her boyfriend began yelling at me, cussing me out, threatening me, controlling everything that I do and one of my sister began getting emotionally abusive towards me. I woke up covered in bruises today.

Wow. It sounds terrible. Sorry to hear it. Do you all share a household?

You can (and likely should) still make a police report today and since you have bruises I recommend to take time stamped pictures of them.

Hi Buffy, sorry to hear that. If you don’t live in the same house, can you stop seeing them? Kids generally take after their parents and if they see your sister rude to you, they may follow that. I know that because my sister treats me like a servant when I am around them and the niece and nephew who are teenagers now have picked this up and order me around and bully me. I am so scared of my sister that I follow their orders. It is embarrassing and humiliating but it is true. I don’t live in the same city so the encounters are just Christmas season and Easter and will cut them off after my parents are gone.

If you didn't report it already,you can tell them in clear terms that if it happens again, there will be consequences. I did that the first time someone slapped me across my face, in my adult life and it never happened again.

I already told her and her boyfriend they will be arrested for assault and battery and harassment.

You mentioned sharing a house with them.If they decide to escalate, you will be in a dangerous situation. Can you live somewhere else?Away from them?
I mean there is a possibility of physical harm even before the police arrives.

I’m currently looking for a place to relocate at where my niece and her boyfriend are not welcome to come to. She blamed me for the things that my sister did even though I am the one who stood up for her.

Not a bad idea. I told her next time the police will be called and I will press charges

I'm sorry you are in a family where that kind of behavior goes on. @divine1966 is often a source of sound practical advice. She's right about this matter too. Document with photos, and it's not too late to include them in a police report.

The police would rather intervene now than after something worse happens. In some communities there are officers specially trained for such interventions. They come out very calmly and can be very supportive.

Take care of yourself and know that you are worthy of respect. Nothing justifies the attack you experienced.

I’m working with my therapist and I told them the next time the police will be called and I will be pressing charges. I told her boyfriend to get out and stay out of business and our lives and he hasn’t changed he is the same person he was in high school.

People like that are unlikely to change. I think it's good that you avoid niece and boyfriend. Keep space between that sister and yourself also. Do call police, if you are attacked again. If you are in the home of a parent, it's a shame that they allow visitors like that in the house. I'm glad you are working with a therapist. Something tells me that incident was probably just the latest in a longstanding pattern of bad behavior. I hope someday you will be in a better, safer environment, like an apartment of your own.

I agree. She could do no wrong when it came to my mom. I am currently looking for a way out of there.m
